Rising Sun Church of Christ was formed from the commitment of 21 people in 1832. They met on the third floor of a building on Front Street and committed to sharing the gospel with this small river community. A building was built in 1839 and RSCC met there until 1857 when they built what would be the church's home for over 100 years. The reason for all of this moving in such a short time was because the growth was outrunning the facilities. They were praying for growth, they would build a building to plan for that growth, and then God would provide way above and beyond what they could ever dream. This is what God does! As people put their trust in Him, God throws open the flood gates and provides in ways we could never dream.

Growth Continues

As this church committed to preaching the word and making disciples, it continued to grow and outgrow the facilities. And this happened again in the 80s. At that time RSCC went from an average attendance of about 130, to an average attendance of nearly 300. That growth required a new building again. And this time, the dream was bigger. They wanted a facility that could handle way more growth because they knew God was calling them to reach the whole community. And so they dreamed. And they prayed. And they did it! They built their new facility, and God filled it!
Onward....
Now, RSCC is in a season of renewed growth. God has blessed us in amazing ways and we are continuing to do what this church has always done: Preach the word and make disciples. We have recently renovated a former gym into a new worship center that expands our capacity and allows us to receive the continued growth that God has given us.
A former pastor at RSCC once wrote in a letter to the church in 1982:
"The future of America is in the hands of strong churches that preach the whole counsel of God and serve as a conscience to the community…"
We know this is true. We are committed now to being a place that preaches biblical truth and lives with radical grace. We are committed to inviting everyone and celebrating when the lost come home! We have once again expanded our facility to receive the growth that God has provided. We trust where He is leading and we are living the way He is calling. Join us as we live to know, love, and serve Jesus Christ!
